‘It Was Good Until It Wasn't', is Kehlani’s Best Album
Hit after hit of toxic perfection is Kehlani’s best work since it dropped in 2020. No skips! The storytelling is impeccable. I think it has reached the level of one of her/their best album since 'Sweet Sexy Savage'.

Hate the Club
'Hate the Club' is because of the rhythm, and the saxophone, as a former sax player it's played very well and thoughtfully. The overall flow puts this song at number one because of its smooth, melodic pacing.
Those times when you go to a party just to see that one person and allegedly this song is about Victoria Monet and Kehlani’s past relations. The only person you got out of bed and headed to the party for, hoping they'll notice how good you look because you noticed them immediately. I love this song deeply because It has me written all over it. Somewhat cause I do love a go party, but I love it even more when you person I want to see is there.
“Damn, you know I hate the club, But I came 'cause I knew you'd show up”.
“Your homegirl told me you would be here, Besides you, ain't no one to see here”.
“Drunk when I call you Monet”,
“Say you miss me, well, I need proof, I came all this way to see you, Every word you say is see-through, You be lying, baby, me too”.
Serial Lover
I like the awareness of being with multiple partners and it's the new lovers' risk to participate because this is what comes with it. She/they is open and honest about it. I love the chorus and honestly, I know a lot of serial lovers that find interest in more than one person at a time. However. I'm more of a mental serial lover, I fall in love with the mind and conversation first, not physical. And I'm single when I do.
“I think I'm addicted to romance, Showing my whole hands, Laying my cards out flat, I say, wear my heart on my sleeve”.
“Understand you're entering at your own risk”.
Toxic
It's a Great Starter Song that lets the listeners know what they're getting into. If you remember when the album first dropped, you most likely remember the quarantine music video shot by Kehlani. I enjoy this one because when you drink, it's like the Don had your person on speed dial. Drunk words are a sober person's real thoughts.
- “Damn right, we take turns bein' wrong, I get real accountable when I'm alone”
- “And that damn Don Julio made me a fool for you, And now I might hit your phone up”.
F&MU
I love this song becasue of the reality and how relatability. If you've ever experienced this type of romance then you know the break-up to make-up routine. It's fun becasue it's a game only you two play together and only you can understand. It's interesting because those times when you think it's over the game is just restarting.
- “We both know it's never really goodbye, I swear it's like we do this all the time”.
- "I hate you", turns into, "I love you", in the bedroom”.
Can I
I can hear Aaliyah's Inspo from her song 'Come Over'. This song is pure sexiness between two lovers in a secret love affair. They can’t get enough of each other. It’s so wrong but feels so right, mysterious. I love how Kehlani is flowing with the beat almost as if she's rapping. It's seductive and addicting.
Grieving
I listened to this song recently upon my current situation and I'm in the process of healing. I'm in the process of loving my peace. The choices we have to make to continue of lives are hard sometimes. As for me, I have a hard time letting people go, but I'll let go if needed. It hurts. Stay or let it die, picked a side, and now I'm just grieving.
“No one would bet that you would lose me like that, No one would guess I had the strength to fall back”.
“Now all I want is peace and quiet, For peace of mind”
“The option was to stay and ride, Or to let it die, I picked a side, now I'm just grievin'”.
Change Your Life Ft “Jhené Aiko
A + for the Jhené Aiko feature. I don't have much to say about this song other than that its vibe is light and airy. The overall song is just about wanting to be a perfect fit for your person. I can be anything you ask me to be; just place me, and I'll mold into it.
Bad News
This song reminds me of Kehlani and Klyde, OG Kehlani fans know this one. No bad news or trouble is going to keep her/them away from him becasue she knows him best. She/They saw him in all forms that will not make her/them judge him.
“Don't wanna get no call with no bad news, I know all the stories from your tattoos”.
"I watched you turn yourself into a made man, All the little things that made you".
Can You Blame Me
The attachment to him makes her feel good, and how she needs him to comfort her. Don't leave because she needs you to fill that void. The anxious attachment style-"[worrying] that people will abandon them so they often seem clingy or needy", according to Very Well Mind.
-” You, you're the reason I got a weakness”
-”I would rather rock you than me sleep alone, Rather call you out than no one call my phone”.
-"I need you here my safe haven (Safe), Rather go at it than not speak at all".
Everybody Business
The struggles of a lover girl, love is constantly taken for granted. When you just want to care for someone becasue that's who you are but it's not appreciated.
-” I ain't never been a half-a** lover, Rather layout on the train tracks for ya”
- “And you ain't never had to ask for that, It's included in the packaging”.
Open( Passionate)
Asking their lover if they’re strong enough to not give in to temptation. Then the second go-round of the chorus switches to the same questions towards herself. Are these two lovers willing to give up lustful thoughts, and avoidable slip-ups to make the relationship into an actual relationship?
“What if you slip up? What if tequila grab your neck and say, "Don't bitch up"? What if you wanna shoot your shot and load the clip up? Are you scared to lose your queen and gain a bishop?”
Water
–Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio, but this isn’t about Zodiacs completely. More so about her water. I like this song, but repetitive yet fun and I'm also not a water sign. I am an air sign, Aquarius specifically and my experiences with waster signs are not that great. But they gravitate towards me.
